Parish Council Role in Planning
Furneux Pelham Parish Council is a statutory consultee for all planning applications in the village. While we review applications and provide responses where appropriate, the final decision is made by the Planning Officer at East Herts District Council or, in certain cases, by the District Council’s Development Control Committee.
Planning Policies and Boundaries
The village’s boundaries and development policies are outlined in the East Herts District Council’s draft District Plan, which defines two key policies affecting Furneux Pelham:
- Group 2 Villages: Applies to areas within the defined village boundary.
- Rural Area Beyond the Green Belt: Applies to areas outside the village boundary, including East End, the space between the boundaries, and the pallet yard.
Relevant extracts from the draft District Plan can be accessed online:
- Villages Policy (currently under review) This may be outdated as the last update in the discussions document was from 2016
- Rural Area Beyond the Green Belt Policy
Please note: some areas of the Parish fall exclusively under the Rural Area Beyond the Green Belt policy, reflecting their distinct development constraints and opportunities.
